Right now, the fitness industry is more competitive than ever. More and more fitness studios are starting to open up, making it much more difficult to obtain and retain clients. Because of this, it is critical that existing fitness centres stay competitive.

One of the best ways to do this is to make your fitness classes stand out and provide your members with a unique and unforgettable workout experience. Read on to find out how.

Quality Audio

Having a crystal clear, high quality sound system is paramount in building a stand-out workout environment. You want to make sure you have fitness-rated, sweat-resistant microphones, top-of-the-range speakers, and audio mixers to ensure your voice does not get overpowered by your music.

Every fitness studio is different and hence has different requirements when it comes to sound systems. In order to create a vibrant sound environment that complements your space, we recommend getting a custom sound installation for your gym. This will maximise the quality of your audio, ensure each and every one of your clients can hear you clearly, and establish an audio atmosphere that motivates your members and pushes them to smash their goals.

Vibrant Lighting

Something all popular fitness studios have in common is colourful, dynamic lighting systems. Installing vibrant, colour-changing lights in your studio sets an incredible atmosphere that inspires people to work hard and have fun doing so! They also add a unique touch to your fitness centre, making it more memorable.

Like fitness sound systems, the best way to go about gym lighting is to get a lighting system custom designed and installed for your studio. This will ensure your lights complement your space and set the exact atmosphere that you desire.

Good Vibes

Lastly, you want your fitness class to have a good vibe and good energy. Engage with your clients, have fun, and encourage them to share their thoughts and experiences. Not only will this set a much more welcoming and friendly vibe to your fitness class, but it will also boost your clients’ loyalty to you and your fitness class.

Making your members feel comfortable and forming relationships with them will make them much less likely to ditch your fitness centre for another one.

Following the above tips will give your fitness centre a competitive edge and help you stay competitive in this rapidly growing industry.

If you’re wanting to get a custom sound or light system installed in your gym, get in touch with Fitness Audio today! Our team is highly experienced in custom designing and installing lighting and sound systems for all types of fitness centres and for all types of fitness classes.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has become the go-to cardio workout for many people around the world. With demand reaching an all time high, so too has supply, with more and more gyms offering HIIT as one of their main group fitness classes.

It is therefore more important than ever to work on ways to keep your HIIT class competitive so you can stop other HIIT classes and studios from snatching up your members.

Read on to learn more about how you can level-up your High Intensity Interval Training class.

Create a Pumping Audio Environment

The key to hosting an unforgettable HIIT class is to establish a motivating and invigorating workout environment. The first step in doing this is setting up an immersive sound system that allows you to pump your music and teach your class simultaneously.

Playing loud, clear, and quality-sounding music that has a high bpm motivates members to work harder, getting them results faster. This provides your students with a great workout experience and inspires them to return to your HIIT class again and again!

That being said, you don’t want your music to overpower your voice. Investing in a quality fitness microphone and audio mixer is therefore beyond worthwhile in ensuring your class can hear you clearly without you needing to turn down the music.

The best way of achieving a pumping audio environment is to get a custom sound system installed in your HIIT studio. Fitness Audio offers state-of-the-art audio installs custom designed to your space. Our fitness sound experts will tailor-make and install a sound system that suits your HIIT studio and your needs.

Create a Vibrant Lighting Environment

Another important factor in setting up an inspiring workout environment is lighting. Having dynamic, colour-changing lighting will drastically boost your members’ moods and performance. It will also differentiate your HIIT class from competitors, allowing you to maximise member retention and attract new clients!

Our Fitness Audio lighting specialists are experienced in designing and installing unforgettable fitness studio lighting systems. They are equipped to custom-design and install colour-changing, moving lights that are both captivating and easy to use!

Get to Know Your Participants

Last but not least, you want to add a personal touch to your HIIT class. Simply remembering names, chatting with students before and after your class, and facilitating conversations between your students will reinforce their loyalty to your class and reduce the chances of them joining another gym or fitness studio.

If you’ve been following Fitness Audio, you’ve probably heard us harp on about our industry gold, sweat-resistant fitness microphones. You’ve probably also noticed that we supply three main models: the EMic, Aeromic, and Cyclemic.

These mics are all designed for specific purposes/usage levels, so figuring out which one is best suited for you and your fitness class is rather important.

Fortunately, Fitness Audio is here to help out! Read on for our EMic VS Aeromic VS Cyclemic guide.

EMic

Our EMic headmic microphone is designed for studios with light to medium fitness use. This means usage of up to 2 to 3 classes a day, 7 days a week. We recommend the EMic for Fitness Instructors who teach classes that require less physical involvement and demonstration, such as Boxing and Circuit. It’s also great for more gentle classes such as Yoga, Pilates, and Aqua Aerobics, and perfect for outdoor use with a portable sound system.

Our ‘E for exercise’ sweat-protected headmic boasts the following features:

  • 12 month warranty for usage of up to 20 classes a week
  • Noise-cancelling, waterproof capsule
  • Sealed, reinforced frame
  • Adjustable headband
  • Steel cable and sweat-protected connector
  • T4 MultiMic connection.

Aeromic

Our Aermic is the ultimate ‘best bet to beat sweat’ headmic. It’s designed to handle usage of up to 7 classes a day, 7 days a week and is perfect for hardcore, high-intensity fitness classes.

Finished with a carbon collar and double mesh, the Aeromic is well protected from moisture and can therefore handle even the sweatiest fitness classes!

Our Aeromics have the following features:

  • 2 year warranty for usage of up to 49 classes a week
  • Triple capsule protection system
  • All steel cable and sweat-protected connector
  • T4 MultiMic connection.

Cyclemic

Our Fitness Audio Cyclemics are designed specifically for Spin Instructors. As Cycle Class Instructors have their heads fixed downwards while they teach, the Cyclemic’s J-shape frame helps drain sweat away from the face, allowing them to teach comfortably.

Cyclemics are essentially Aeromics for Spin Class. They boast all the same features, and have the same sweat-protective properties. Cyclemics just offer that additional bit of protection and comfort for Spin Instructors.

Our Cyclemics have the following features:

  • 2 year warranty for usage of up to 49 classes a week
  • Triple capsule protection system
  • All steel cable and sweat-protected connector
  • T4 MultiMic connection.

One of the many benefits of investing in a high-quality set of speakers is that they can last a lifetime. That is, if you take good care of them. Like most pieces of audio equipment, speakers sound their best when they are looked after. Take good care of your speakers, and they will take care of you. Read on to find out how.

1. Keep Your Speakers Dust-Free

Dusty speakers don’t look good, nor do they sound good. Dust can infiltrate your speakers’ wire connectors (the place where the wire and metal meet) and disrupt the electric signals that run between the source and the speakers. This can add excess noise to your gym’s sound system and, in extreme cases, can damage your speakers’ wiring.

To combat this, make sure you clean your speakers regularly. Dust pads, dry cloths, air canisters and vacuum cleaners are all safe to use on your speakers. Never use liquids or alcohols to clean your speakers.

2. Protect Your Speakers From the Heat

Never position your speakers in direct sunlight and try to keep them away from windows. This usually isn’t a concern for fitness studios, however can be an issue for speakers positioned around gyms that have a lot of natural light.

Excess exposure to sun and heat can cause the speakers to overheat and hinder the electrical flow between the speakers and audio source.

3. Be Mindful of Static Electricity

Exposure to static electricity can also be greatly detrimental to your speakers. To protect your speakers from static electricity, avoid positioning them directly on the floor, especially if it is carpeted.

4. Ensure Your Gym is Well-Ventilated

Ensuring there is adequate airflow around your gym’s speakers is also important in helping them cool down whilst they’re playing. One of the best ways to do this is to keep your speakers out of tight spaces and mount them onto your studio’s walls. This will not only prolong the life of your speakers, but will also improve their sound quality as there will be less distortion due to vibrations and overheating.

Following these tips will help keep your fitness centre’s speakers in mint condition and prolong their operative life. Keep in mind, however, that if your speakers are very old or poor-quality, these tips will not be as effective.

Being a Fitness Instructor isn’t always easy. Having to run multiple classes a day, motivating countless students, and making sure all your equipment is operating well consistently can get exhausting.

Fortunately, Fitness Audio is here to make your job easier! Read on to find out 4 tools every Fitness Instructor needs for seamless teaching.

1. A Fitness Microphone

When it comes to teaching group fitness, having a fitness mic is a must! Not only will a fitness-rated microphone help your students hear better and follow your class more easily, but it will also save your voice so you don’t have to scream over your music to be heard.

You should get a quality fitness microphone that is durable, sweat-proof, and wireless - this will prevent your movement from being restricted by wires.

In addition, we always recommend Fitness Instructors to get a microphone case to safely store their mic and transmitters when they’re not in use.

2. A Mic Belt

Wireless mic systems are an Exercise Instructors best friend. They do, however, often involve mic transmitters that need to be kept close to the Instructor when they’re using their microphone.

Our mic belts are the perfect solution to finding somewhere to store your mic transmitter. They are worn around the waist and feature a perfectly-sized pouch designed to store your microphone transmitter.

Keeping your mic transmitter in a mic belt will keep it safe from falls and moisture, and will ensure it is kept close enough to your microphone so your audio is clear and doesn’t cut-out.

3. eGloop Electronic Sweat Protectant Paste

Exposure of electronics to sweat is one of the leading causes of fitness microphone malfunction. In order to tackle this issue, Fitness Instructors should use eGloop Electronic Sweat Protectant Paste in the connectors of their microphones and transmitters. This will prevent moisture from getting into and damaging the electronics.

4. Deoxit Connection Cleaner

Almost every Fitness Instructor is familiar with that crackling sound that can occur when mic equipment is not sufficiently and/or frequently cleaned. The best and easiest way to avoid this is to use Deoxit Connection Cleaner on your mic and transmitter connectors. Do this before using eGloop Sweat Protectant to keep your mic system in the best condition possible and your audio sounding fantastic.

Offering a stand-out Zumba experience requires exceptional sound quality. If the music fuels the groups’ energy, it only makes sense to invest in a sound system that will allow your members to absorb the pure essence of Zumba and feel what it’s all about.

In this guide, Fitness Audio will break down everything required to host a stand - out Zumba class no matter where you are. What portable sound system is best for offering a stand-out outdoor class? What’s needed to shine online? And lastly, our top pick for an epic indoor experience that will take your Zumba class to the next level.

The fitness industry’s rapid evolution led group classes to offer alternative options outdoors as well as online. With virtual fitness and outdoor group classes becoming widely available, the industry has captured a new fitness audience searching for an accepting community, whilst simultaneously improving their health and well-being.

Right now, many new fitness enthusiasts who began their fitness journey online are taking the next step to live classes. The best part is that they are not giving up their online programs anytime soon.

Live group classes are seeing the benefits of fitness newbies who took the online route. Still, with various options to choose from in a live class, the expectations they have to keep them coming back are similar to what they liked about their online experience.

What do the people want and what do new members expect from a group class? I have been to many group classes where I took a spot at the back or side of the room, especially if it was my first time in attendance and I felt shy. On more than one occasion, I would soon realise my choice of location was a big mistake. I was next to the dreaded dead speaker that made the latest mambo hit sound like a foghorn! Lucky me!

While the ones in the front appeared to be having the time of their lives, the unfortunate souls at the back covered their ears with a horrified look on their faces. Remembering the looks on the faces of the ten or so in that area cracks me up whenever I think about it.

I stayed for a few minutes with the hope that someone would realise what was happening, but I suppose the show must go on, and it did, so I took off.

I never returned to that group class because the risk of disappointment was too high! It was funny how something as simple as an updated sound system would have had me coming back in a heartbeat. So, with that said, let’s dive right into our top recommendations, best suited to offer the total Zumba experience. Capturing its pure essence with a customised sound system will help retain your members and reach a new customer base searching for a good time.

Let’s take a look at what you will need to host a 5-star Zumba class.

Aside from a great attitude and an in-depth knowledge of Zumba class, there are a number of things you will need to host a competitive class. This includes quality audio and lighting products.

Whether your Zumba class is in-person or online, it is of the utmost importance that you have clear and concise sound. This will make your class easy to follow and pump up its atmosphere!

If you’re hosting an in-person class, it’s also worthwhile thinking about studio lighting. Installing dynamic, colour-changing lights into your studio will boost motivation and give your gym that competitive touch.

Prolong the life of your fitness headset microphone and avoid "the crackles" by keeping both the headset connector plug and the bodypack transmitter connector jack clean and protected.

Sweat is a natural part of exercise and letting it remain in your connectors causes corrosion that will eventually lead to crackling, then connection failure. Proper storage of your headset mic and transmitter will also extend its lifespan.

TIP 1: Clean and Protect

Use DeOxit cleaner and eGloop corrosion protector on both connectors at least twice a month. Simply spray DeOxit into the connectors and gently tap out or swab out the debris it loosens.

After the connectors are clean, dab a bit of eGloop marine-grade protectant gel into the connectors. eGloop will coat the prongs and holes, making both sides of the connection as sweat resistant as possible.

TIP 2: Let your headset mic dry out between uses

Whenever your microphone is not in use, store it someplace safe with plenty of air circulation to promote drying. Having a hook near or inside your sound system rack makes hanging up to dry easy.

If you’re an individual Fitness Instructor and your headset mic travels with you, a great way to protect it and let it dry is storing it in a microphone case or a Tupperware-type container with holes punched in the lid for ventilation.

TIP 3: Don’t Do!

One of the worst ways to store your headset mic is by wrapping/winding its cable around the bodypack transmitter and putting both pieces in an unventilated drawer. Not only does this not let the headset dry as effectively as hanging or storing in a ventilated space, you’ll also decrease the life of your headset mic’s cable by winding it around the transmitter. Repeated wrapping/winding will put kinks in the cable which will eventually cause shorts in it.

If you absolutely must use a drawer: gently loop the cable, making the loops as large as possible - and be careful not to close the drawer on the cable. We’ve repaired many headset cables that have been damaged by having a drawer closed on them.

TIP 4: Back things up

Having a backup for critical equipment is one of the best ways to assure ‘the class will go on’ with little or no stress. We always recommend having a backup headset mic. A backup belt-pack transmitter is a good idea too, though most technical issues usually happen in the headset mic first. Even an inexpensive headset will do – as long as it has the proper connector type for your transmitter.

A backup headset ensures you will have a working mic – and save your voice - while your main headset is repaired or replaced.

Bootcamps are the fitness class people hate to love. They are hardcore and painful, but they get results! Because of this, there are increasingly more Bootcamps opening up around the world. This means that current Bootcamp Instructors need to start seeking ways to level-up their Bootcamps to stay competitive and hold onto their clients.

Here are Fitness Audio’s top 3 tips for running a competitive Bootcamp.

Remember: Variety is the Spice of Bootcamp

Bootcamps can get boring quickly. If you're constantly repeating classes and routines, chances are you’ll find yourself losing members.

In order to avoid this, you need to mix up your classes so they’re different each time. Simply changing the exercises you teach, intensity of your class, and music you play can make a huge difference in making your Bootcamp more enjoyable.

The Great Outdoors

Where possible, Bootcamps should be hosted outdoors. Not only does this maintain the tradition of Bootcamps and appeal to outdoor-training fans, but it does also mean you and your clients are less restricted by walls, ceilings, windows, and doors.

When it comes to selecting a good outdoor location to run your Bootcamp, you’ll need to undertake a risk assessment to ensure there are minimal hazards and threats to the health of your students. It’s also a good idea to consult your local council to make sure you are legally allowed to run your Bootcamp where you want to.

Music is Your Best Friend

It is very difficult to run a successful Bootcamp without being able to motivate your clients. You need to move around, use inflection, excitement and authority in your voice, and celebrate your students’ achievements. You should also pump fast-paced music to help motivate your students to push themselves.

It has been recommended that Fitness Instructors play high-energy popular music between 140-160 BPM. In order to get the most out of your music, you should also invest in a solid portable sound system that doesn’t compromise the audio quality of your microphone.

Fitness Audio offers a variety of fitness-rated wireless headset mic systems specifically chosen to suit certain usage levels, class intensities and style choices.

The general rule about the wireless systems we offer is: the more expensive systems perform better and are more durable - especially for group exercise usage, where movement and sweat create a tough environment for any headset microphone system.

In heavy use situations (multiple classes per day), medium to higher priced microphone systems will give you the best performance and be a better value in the long run. If you have budget constraints, rest assured that all mic systems offered by Fitness Audio are professional quality and use an aerobics style headframe designed for fitness use.

At Fitness Audio, we offer different mics for different usage levels. Our Aeromic is designed for high usage of up to 7 classes a day, 7 days a week. Our EMic, on the other hand, is better suited for light usage of up to 3 classes a day.

We also have specific mics for specific classes. For example, our Cyclemics are designed specifically for Spin Instructors, whilst our EMics are designed for more gentle fitness classes, such as Yoga and Pilates.

The spin class has taken the fitness world by storm. More and more people are hopping on the cycle class bandwagon and more and more fitness centres are offering it as one of their main classes.

Aside from its significant calorie-burning potential, the main reason a spin class is so popular is because it is a highly enjoyable experience that makes people forget they are working out.

In order to stay competitive, it is therefore important that cycle studio owners maximise their members’ workout experiences. This involves hiring and training rockstar Spin Instructors, installing fun, dynamic and colour-changing lights, and setting up a banging sound system.

In this article, we will focus on the sound system component of your spin studio. We will outline what features you should look for in order to create a vibrant, stand-out audio environment.

Easy-To-Use

Having a sound system that is easy to use is key. Spin Instructors should be able to focus on teaching their class rather than mucking around with audio controls, so investing in sound equipment that is simple and straight-forward is a must.

Built to be Tough

An ideal spin studio sound system should also be able to handle the elements. Highly-durable audio equipment that is resistant to sweat and isn’t fragile is an important feature that gym owners should look for. This is particularly important when it comes to fitness mics, as they have the highest exposure to moisture and movement.

Our Fitness Audio Cyclemic is designed specifically for Spin Instructors. They are built in a J-shape formation that reduces exposure to sweat and ensures the mic sits comfortably on the head and won’t fall off.

Crystal-Clear Audio

A cycle studio sound system needs to be very versatile. Not only does it need to have clear music, but also clear vocal audio so that students can hear the instructional guidance of the Fitness Instructor with ease.

Music plays a huge role in spin classes, so ensuring your sound system is able to deliver high quality sound that maximises the intensity of your music is a must. The music should not, however, interfere with the Spin Instructor’s directions. So investing in fitness mics and audio mixers is also paramount.

The best way of getting the most out of your studio’s audio is to get a custom sound system installed. Fitness Audio offers custom sound system design and installation services that will guarantee stand-out audio in your studio. Our Audio Experts will work with the natural acoustics and features of your space to create a loud, clear, and invigorating sound environment.

We’ve all heard about different exercise fads that combine some form of workouts and entertainment. From cinema cycling to musical-based exercise classes, there are plenty of opportunities to combine a form of entertainment with a form of exercise in today’s world, whether you are working out at a gym or in the comfort of your own home.

While some people might find this to be a little gimmicky, there are actually plenty of reasons why it makes so much sense for exercise and entertainment to mix. Read on to find out more!

Exercise should be enjoyable

First of all, if you want to get into a continuous exercise routine, it is incredibly helpful to find a way to make exercise something that is fun, instead of a chore. One way to do this is to find a type of physical activity that you find to be particularly fun.

However, this isn’t always easy to do, especially if you are looking to make it part of a routine. Mixing exercise and entertainment adds an additional layer of enjoyment to simple cardio exercises.

You can push your body further

When you are able to take your mind off your exercise, you’ll find that you are able to keep at it for longer. When using entertainment while you exercise, it enables you to stimulate your mind, which makes your workout seem shorter and feel more invigorating.

Typically, this works better for simpler workouts, such as running or cycling, due to the fact that you want to make sure that you are maintaining safe exercise practices.

Audio and visual stimulation can improve performance

Not only can entertainment benefit your workout in taking your mind off the exercise, but the type of entertainment that you are consuming can actually make you focus even harder on your workout, if you are looking to push yourself through an intense session. Studies have shown that listening to music has an impact on the speed and stamina of athletes.

For example, a man named Leonard Ayes discovered in 1911 that cyclists would pedal faster if they were listening to a band that was playing at a high bpm. In addition, certain types of entertainment can get you in a mindset that makes it easier to focus on adrenaline, which can make it easier to push your body further.

If you run a fitness studio or gym, you can use the exercise and entertainment combination to your advantage. Providing your members with a captivating exercise environment will help them achieve a more effective workout, reach their goals, and keep coming back for more!

Contact Fitness Audio for more information on how to achieve this.

Whether you’re new to teaching outdoor fitness classes or you’ve been doing it for sometime, you’ll know that they can take a bit more time and work than traditional indoor fitness classes.

Fortunately, Fitness Audio is here to help with our top 5 tips for executing a seamless outdoor fitness class.

1. Set Up Equipment for Your Students Ahead of Time

Setting up your student’s equipment ahead of time will ensure that you can jump straight into the workout as soon as they arrive. It will also help you ensure that each student is sufficiently spread apart so they won’t interfere with one another’s workouts.

2. Maximise Portable Equipment Usage

When it comes to exercise equipment, you’ll want to ensure that the equipment you use in your class isn’t too heavy and can easily be moved around. Think kettlebells, dumbbells, jump ropes, and resistance bands.

Also, encourage your members to bring their own equipment such as yoga mats and towels. This will help you save time, save space in your car, and ensure your exercise class is as hygienic as possible.

3. If Possible, Find a Shady Area

Exercising in the heat is never fun, especially if you are in direct sunlight. Because of this, you should try to find somewhere shady where you can carry out your outdoor fitness class.

In addition, try and find somewhere close to shelter or close to an indoor space that you can rent in case it rains. This way you won’t have to cancel your classes if the weather is bad.

4. Take Advantage of the Space

One great advantage of outdoor fitness classes is that you are not confined to one room. Because of this, you should aim to take advantage of the space! Incorporate drills such as running laps and sprints into your class. This will not only get your student’s working hard, but will also help differentiate your class from others.

5. Set Up a Motivating Atmosphere

Just because you’re outside, doesn’t mean you should skimp out on music. You still want to set a pumping and motivating atmosphere that gets you clients results!

Because of this, you should invest in a portable sound system that you can take to your outdoor exercise classes. We also recommend you get a fitness microphone too so you don’t have to strain your voice and so you can ensure all your students can hear you clearly.

If you’re unsure about how to best go about getting a portable sound system for your outdoor group fitness class, talk to Fitness Audio! We will be able to inform you on what audio equipment is best for your class.

When it comes to teaching group fitness classes, there are numerous things that can go wrong. Although a lot of the time these things are out of the Fitness Instructor’s control, there are some things the Instructor can do to prevent their class from going astray.

Here are Fitness Audio’s 3 most common mistakes Group Exercise Instructors make and how to avoid them.

1. Not Building a Solid Foundation

It is of the utmost importance that Fitness Instructors ensure their students understand the basics of their class and have them mastered before progressing. Moving on too quickly or starting your classes with exercises that have a high-level of difficulty is a big no no as it will increase the likelihood of incorrect form and injury, and will discourage your students.

To prevent this, plan each class carefully to ensure you are starting with the easiest exercises and slowly increasing the difficulty level. During your class, pay close attention to each student so you can individually guide them if they need assistance.

2. Not Varying Your Classes

Not adding variation to each class is a huge mistake many Fitness Instructors make. Most people opt for group fitness classes as they find typical forms of exercise, such as running or weight training, boring and monotonous. It is therefore critical that you prevent your class from being perceived as boring and monotonous to keep your students coming back.

One of the best ways to do this is to add variation to your classes. Rather than following a similar routine or structure each class, mix it up as much as you can. Demonstrate different exercises if possible and use different types of music.

3. Not Having the Right AV Equipment

The last mistake Group Exercise Instructors make is not having the right AV equipment. This includes lights, mics, and speakers.

It is easy to prioritise exercise equipment in group fitness classes; however, this doesn’t mean AV equipment should be forgotten about.

Having a good quality sound system that ensures your voice is heard in conjunction with the music makes a significant difference in the overall quality of your class. In addition, installing fun, colour-changing lights into your studio will further boost motivation levels in your class and provide your students with a highly enjoyable workout experience.

If you’re wanting to level-up your classes' AV equipment, get in touch with Fitness Audio today. We can recommend and install state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems that will compliment your space and motivate your students!

Level-up your results this year, with these three cutting-edge fitness workouts.

1. AI Science And Advanced Fitness Wearables

The world of AI technology is predicted to double from $40.74 billion in 2020 to $99.94 billion in 2023, and developments in the health and fitness industry will play a massive part in this. The rapid acceleration of AI technology means personalised training is about to go up a notch. Fusing together your biometric data, activity levels, and goals, AI-based training programs will soon be serving up highly personalised exercise regimes. Individualised workout recommendations are just the beginning; savvy exercisers will soon be able to experience bespoke workouts – with an AI-informed Personal Trainer prescribing moves tailored to suit your body, and intensity levels that peak to match your fitness. Add to this the use of smartphone sensors, computer vision, and wearable devices and the coaching can be delivered in real time.

2. Going Green With Biophilia Training

With the trend towards more holistic exercise experiences remaining strong, green activity is set to flourish. Biophilia training sessions (nature-based workouts) deliver a holistic sensory experience – giving you the chance to take in the scenery, move in the breeze, feel the earth underfoot, and smell the grass and flowers. There are numerous benefits of exercise in nature and purposeful outdoor activity has been shown to significantly improve wellbeing.

Moving forward we can expect medical professionals to increasingly prescribe outdoor activity to help improve physical fitness and wellbeing. While outdoor workouts are ideal as they combine the calming qualities of nature with the benefits of exercise, activities such as spending time simply sitting in nature are also growing in popularity. The practice of forest bathing is gaining momentum, with participants lowering stress levels and boosting their mood in as little as 20 minutes.

3. Gamification At The Gym (Or At Home)

Tech-based workouts have been on the scene for some time, but innovation in this space is accelerating, with a raft of gamified training options and technologically-inspired exercise on the horizon. Gaming authorities report that two out of three Americans are now playing video games at least once a week – doing so to unwind, relieve stress, and have fun. These psychological and physical benefits can peak when the gaming is fused with physical activity.

No longer is it just tech companies dabbling in the fitness space, now highly-effective science-backed training programs are leveraging virtual reality and being adopted by the masses. Researchers have identified the ability to score exercise points, leader boards, unlockable content, levels, badges, and challenges and quests as the most popular ways to bolster workout motivation, so we can expect more of this in the future. Combine this with connected trackers, and thriving online fitness communities, and you’ll have increasing opportunities to enjoy the motivation of a group while you get your fitness fix at home.

Group exercise studios are starting to serve up a new generation of immersive workouts where music, visuals, wearables, and Fitness Instructors combine in an exhilarating exercise experience. Down the track, virtual reality machines could soon become more prevalent on gym floors and clubs could offer high-tech cycles and treadmills that push your limits with racing games.

“The cultural convergence between fitness and gaming is sparking exciting collaborations and innovative products. You can now be transported into the middle of the most popular martial arts workout on the planet.” Rachael Newsham, Les Mills Program Director.

There are many exciting new fitness trends on the horizon and getting in early to introduce them into your group exercise class is a great way to stay competitive and attract new members!

Just remember that whatever new trend you integrate into your fitness club, it will always go better with music. So make sure you have high-quality sound equipment in your gym!
